Statistics

Arrest volume and rate by county, drawn from federal data rather than from our own publishing counts.

Where the numbers come from

County arrest counts and rates are 2024 NIBRS figures from the FBI Crime Data Explorer, divided by Census population for the same year. They are a federal annual release, so they update once a year rather than continuously.

Records published on this site are a separate figure and are counted live. The two will not match: not every arrest is published, and published records cover only the counties we carry.

Browse by county

Each county page carries its own arrest rate, county seat, and the number of reporting agencies. Use the Counties menu above, or the county index on the home page.

A note on what these numbers mean

An arrest rate is not a crime rate and an arrest is not a conviction. Arrest counts reflect police activity as much as underlying offending: two counties with similar crime can report very different arrest numbers depending on staffing, policy and which agencies report to NIBRS at all. Read them as a measure of enforcement, not of danger.
